NIHARA 'NARNI' FERNANDO

BOTANIC HUES ∙ SHADOW PODS ∙ NARNI STYLE ∙ PHOTOGRAPHY ∙ INTERIORS

After graduating with a B.A. (Hons) in interior design from the university of Northumbria, Nihara Fernando began her design career in 2005 at MICD working with renowned architects Channa Daswatte, Murad Ismail and Annika Fernando.

Since starting to work as a freelancer in 2011, Nihara has undertaken commissioned work for a variety of projects ranging from private residencies, hotels, and offices to theatrical performances and other cultural events

For as long as she can remember, Nihara has been fascinated by the natural world. This passionate connection with nature has long permeated her work as a photographer, artisanal craftworker and interior designer.

Her latest project Botanic Hues is the culmination of  years of experimentation with a multitude of traditional dyeing techniques using natural raw materials. Completely hands-on throughout the process, Nihara has spent many hours of iterative and painstaking work trying to understand and master the ancient methods involved in the often unpredictable process of natural hand-dyeing.
